Tax Credits are far more beneficial than tax deductions. Tax credits are the same as cash and reduce the amount of taxes you owe at the end of the year by the face value of the tax credit.
Summary of the Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
- The tax credits that were previously effective for 2009 are extended through 2010 as well
- The tax credit has been raised from 10% to 30% of the total cost of qualifying improvements
- The maximum credit has been raised from $200-$500 to $1,500 for the two years (2009-2010)
- The $200 cap on windows has been removed
- The tax credit applies only to the product costs. No labor or installation costs can be included
- Windows must have a U-value of <=.30 AND a solar heat gain co-efficient (SHGC) of <=.30
